Ernst Kalff
Born on December 23, 1954 in Loenen a.d. Vecht, Holland. Studied photography (with Klaus Peter Ohlenforst) and developed a well trained eye for food, still and fashion photography. Assisted, among others, for Peter Hoffmann, Dieter Eikelpoth, Peter Knapp and Holger Eckstein.
There were assorted stays in Paris (Editorial for Baby Vogue), Deauville, London, Los Angeles and Miami and assorted jobs as as a freelance assistent and location scout. Then, after several book projects, he changed format; from 1 frame to 25 frames per second. This took him back to school in Los Angeles, where he studied documentary and propaganda film at U.S.C. His film career continued as a location service for the U.S.A. and Caribbean and as line producer for Filmhaus L.A., a branch of Filmhaus Munich.

As a freelance line producer and director for Filmhaus Munich, he was responsible for difficult shoots in Kenia, the Caribbean, New Zealand and the U.S.A. for such difficult clients as Peter Stuyvesant, HB, Philip Morris, TUI, Toyota, Mercedes, Marlboro, Fa and Pirelli.
In 1991 he founded REM Rapid Eye Movement Film und Fernsehproduktions GmbH in Munich, Germany. In addition to producing commercials which have won awards from the ADC New York, the German Designer Club, the Mobius Advertsing Award, the New York Advertising Festival, Reddot Award and Worldfest Houston, he has also specialized in discovering and sponsoring new young talent. For example, Marcel K. Gardelli shot his first commercial with REM. It was REM who first introduced Manuel Werner and Jakob M. Erwa to the world of advertising. And REM co-produced the documentary film "Karma Cowboy" for Maren Ade, Sonja Heiss and Vanessa van Houten, which was awarded the prestigious "Young Lions" status at the Bavarian Documentary Film Awards.
And last but not least, Ernst has a genetically predetermined preference for french fries.
